Troubleshooting Remote Monitoring Problems
Technological advances make it easier to conduct generator remote monitoring. However, even the most well-designed systems are not perfect and problems can arise that can hinder your monitoring capabilities. The following are some of the most common problems with remote monitoring and the solutions that can often solve the issue.
Wi-Fi Not Connecting - There are many reasons the Wi-Fi module won't connect to your network. These include changes to the ISP, power outages, and either a disconnected or damaged network router. These problems are usually fixed by reconnecting and resetting the router, or cradle point device. If the router / cradle point is damaged and needs to be replaced, follow the reconnection process and then test the system to ensure functionality is restored.
LED Flashing - If the LED is flashing 2-3 times per second, it can be because the RSSI is too low, the password is incorrect, or that you have incorrectly entered the SSID. When this happens, you should first check the signal strength. You may need to boost it until it is strong enough for the system. If that doesn't resolve the flashing, then you should verify that you have the correct password and restart the connection. You will know the solution worked if the LED flash rate slows to just one blink per second.
LED Off - If the LED is off, it's often because there is no power to the Wi-Fi module. Check the 5 amp fuse that is located on the harness wire. You may need to replace this if it is damaged. It may also be because the harness is loose at the controller. If the harness is loose, reseat it within the socket. If this doesn't solve the problem, check that the Wi-Fi router is connected to the power supply and reset it.
LED Solid Light - If the LED is solid, it often means the Wi-Fi module has locked up. You will have to navigate the controls to enable the Wi-Fi before restarting the module.
If your generator remote monitoring is not restored following these solutions, you should contact the generator manufacturer. You should not attempt to open the Wi-Fi module or repair wiring. Any work required within the system should be performed by an Independent Authorized Service Dealer.
