Sound Attenuation Enclosures to Trap the Sound

Noise control containment is an effective method of reducing engine noise. Before installation, technicians calculate the predicted sound levels, paths, and receivers. This calculation includes ambient noise and structural elements. These calculations are crucial as elements within the field will absorb, reflect, or transmit sound waves.

The installation team uses this information to determine the best design for the sound attenuation enclosure. This includes the choice of steel or aluminum to construct the structure. Generator technology has advanced at a remarkable rate over the past decade. The implementation of Tier 1 through Tier 4 emissions reduction standards resulted in the development of cleaner, quieter diesel engines.

Small, portable generators can operate at between 50-75 db. This is approximately the same level as a refrigerator or a casual conversation. At the other end of the scale, a fixed diesel generator with an output of 50kW operates at around 85 db.
