Generator Load Bank Testing

Load bank checks he engines ability to perform and provide the required horsepower when call upon in an emergency. It is important to test your generator on a regular basis. Whether your generator is a 20kW or a 2 Megawatt, utilizing a load bank to test the generator functionality will help detect deficiencies within the system, as well as, verify that the unit output is performing to full capacity.

Resistive and Reactive Load Bank Testing:

Depending on the application of the generator, quarterly, semi-annual, or annual testing may be a requirement. Hospitals, Fire Stations, Data Centers, Critical Care Facilities, 911 Call Centers, etc. require testing in accordance with National Fire Protection Association (NFPA 110) Standards, Local Regulations, or Joint Commission Standards (JCAHO). All of these standards require very specific methods of load bank testing, with documentation of performance within a series of load steps. New EPA regulations require emissions testing of diesel powered generators under load conditions. Utilizing a load bank allows for testing the emissions controls.

Gen-Tech Load Bank Services:

Gen-Tech offers load bank testing up to 2.5 Megawatts. Load bank testing is a standard part of our “Preventative Maintenance Service Agreements”, and is accomplished without any interruption to facility operations.  Our test procedures include Load test generator set for a minimum of 1 or 2 or 4 consecutive hours. Run at 80% of rating with 100% verification or as described in Service Agreement.

Our standard process is to provide a report listing all recorded engine oil pressure and coolant temperatures values, generator voltage and frequency, voltage regulation, controls and safety devices for proper operation.
