New and Noteworthy: MG100, MG130 and MG150

Generac is pleased to announce an expansion to our MPS Product Line-up.  The expansion involves utilizing the Spark Ignited 6.8L engine with MPS technology.  The product is fully configurable, just like the SG models.  A primary benefit is this allows you to provide a dual fuel (natural gas + propane) solution for your customers.  These products are available to quote through application engineering.

Lela Burkey with Arizona Gen-Tech recently delivered a 2xMG150 Dual Fuel project to Midwestern University, Dental and Optometry in Glendale, AZ.  Midwestern University worked with LSW Engineering for the expansion project which included the generators.

The original project requirements called for 250kW Natural Gas, with a Propane backup option.  Because of the campus location, a sound attenuated enclosure was required.  Arizona Gen-Tech worked with the engineer to provide an MPS solution that met these requirements.

Lela indicated that the requirements for the project drove the need for an expansion of the MPS product lineup.  "The customer and engineer had a desire for dual fuel (natural gas with LP backup), and a kW requirement of 250kW.  We contacted Generac, and it was agreed that we could use the 6.8L spark ignited product with dual fuel capability, add the MPS controls, and still meet the EPA requirements.  It worked out great”.

The special engineering was quite extensive on this project. Generac took a SG150, 6.8L and put MPS controls on the genset.  This also required upsizing the enclosure, because the paralleling contactor would not fit in the standard Level 2 enclosure for a SG150.  This product was new, so it required new documentation and drawings prior to submittal release.

Many projects have a need for on-site fuel supply, required by NFPA 110.  Usually, these projects are specified with a diesel generator solution.   In this case, the customer had a preference for natural gas, but was concerned that an earthquake or natural disaster could cut off the supply.  Hence, the need for the backup, and on-site propane vapor supply.  Generac was one of only a few manufacturers that could offer a solution, without reverting to aftermarket kits.

There are several advantages of this new model, offered on the 6.8L spark ignited generator set.
  • MPS Controls offer redundancy, expandability and flexibility.
  • Dual Fuel option for redundancy and code required on-site fuel for health care and mission critical markets
  • PMG Alternator, 4 pole design, which assists in coordination studies and meets engineers’ expectation for an industrial product.
  • Flexibility in Open, Weather Protected, Level 1 and 2 Sound Attenuated Enclosures.
  • G200 Control Panel for full functionality
  • Full range of options available on the SG models

There is a strong demand for this solution offered by Generac Industrial Power.  When the specification calls for redundancy, scalability, and sound attenuation, the new spark ignited MPS modules should be considered.
